Description
The Engstler 494QM cuckoo clock tells a scene of life in the heart of the forest: the axe comes down, the wheel turns, and the music joins in every hour. Twelve melodies take turns through the day, in a carefully finished 29 cm chalet.
The axe sets the tempo
This chalet comes from the Engstler family manufacturer, based in Villingen-Schwenningen, and simply runs on batteries with its quartz movement.
When the hour comes, the cuckoo shows itself at its dormer and launches its call, which the echo extends. The music follows immediately: the woodcutter raises his arm, the mill wheel begins to turn, and one of the twelve tunes in the repertoire accompanies the scene, from the “Holzhacker” to the “Fröhlicher Wanderer”. When the light dims, the sensor switches everything off until the next day.
To understand how the call, the melodies and the figurines follow one another, our guide to musical cuckoo clocks details everything.
A wooden chalet with a mountain look
The case takes on the look of mountain houses, right down to the finishes of the wood. On the terrace, the woodcutter busies himself near his chopping block, the wheel turns beside him, and a dog watches at the foot of the façade.
Its 29 cm fit just as well in a living room as in a kitchen or an entrance hall. The woodcutter theme remains one of the most popular in the Black Forest.
