Description
The Hönes 800/4 cuckoo clock follows the codes of the traditional cuckoo clock with its bird, its five leaves and its walnut-stained wood decoration. Its mechanical movement offers a week of running time between two windings.
A mechanical 8-day movement
Made by Hönes in Titisee-Neustadt, this cuckoo clock runs on a weight-driven mechanical 8-day movement. The two pine cone-shaped weights are wound once a week by pulling on the chains. On the half hour, the cuckoo calls once; on the hour, it counts the hours. Its rack strike mechanism allows simple setting: the hands can be turned in both directions, with no risk to the mechanism.
A decoration carved in deep relief
Hand-carved in the traditional style, this model features five large leaves in deep relief around the dial. A bird with outspread wings stands at the top, while the background carved with diamonds and the openwork motifs complete the decoration. The painted cuckoo is the only coloured element.
The bird and foliage decoration belongs to the tradition of the Bahnhäusle, which appeared in the Black Forest around 1850. The same spirit comes in other formats among our carved cuckoo clocks.
