Description
The Hönes 100ed cuckoo clock is a magnificent mechanical model that combines traditional carving with hand-painted edelweiss. Compact and authentic, it calls on every half hour and is wound daily.
Movement and operation
Made by Hönes in Titisee-Neustadt, this model is fitted with a mechanical 1-day Regula movement and two pine cone-shaped weights. The chains must be pulled each day to wind the clock. The cuckoo comes out of its small door and calls on the half hour, then counts the hours on the hour.
A lever allows the call to be switched off manually during the night, without interrupting the clock's operation. This model comes with a VdS certificate of authenticity.
To learn more about daily winding, see our guide to the mechanical movement.
A decoration of hand-painted edelweiss
Handmade in the Black Forest, this cuckoo clock is carved in wood stained a walnut colour. Five large leaves are each adorned with a white hand-painted edelweiss and green foliage. At the top, the carved bird spreads its wings in a finish left the colour of the wood. The lattice around the dial and the carved crosspieces complete the woodwork.
The edelweiss, a high-mountain flower, has become a symbol of the Alps. You can also find the same clock in a colourful finish.
