Description
The Hönes 822/3 cuckoo clock stands out for its bouquet of foliage that crowns the piece. Its mechanical 8-day movement lets you enjoy the call of the cuckoo with a single winding per week.
A mechanical 8-day movement
Made by Hönes in Titisee-Neustadt, this cuckoo clock runs on a weight-driven mechanical 8-day movement. The two pine cone-shaped weights are wound once a week by pulling on the chains. Every hour, the cuckoo comes out of its door and calls the hour, and it also calls once on the half hour. The pendulum swings and the ticking of the mechanism remains audible.
Carved foliage
Entirely carved by hand, this model has a uniform walnut tint. A bouquet of leaves spreads out at the top, while the foliage in deep relief frames the dial and descends below it. The background carved with diamonds accentuates the deeply cut lines of the leaves. The painted cuckoo is the only coloured element.
The foliage decoration belongs to the tradition of the Bahnhäusle, which appeared in the Black Forest around 1850. Here, the carving alone forms the crown. The same decoration exists in 20 cm, with a 1-day movement: a more compact version for small walls.
