Description
The Hönes 1750 cuckoo clock brings the call of the Black Forest in a compact format. A simple mechanical model, made in Titisee-Neustadt, that easily finds its place in everyday life.
Movement and operation
Made by Hönes, this cuckoo clock has a mechanical 1-day Regula movement. Two pine cone-shaped weights drive the mechanism. You simply pull the chains each day to wind them.
The cuckoo calls once on every half hour, then strikes the number of hours on the hour. It comes out of its small door and nods its head during the call. The woodcutter brings his axe down on his chopping block. A lever allows the call to be switched off manually during the night.
A rural Black Forest setting
Above a light-coloured façade, the openwork gable and the pointed plank roof are stained walnut. On each side of the dial, a window with green shutters cut out with a heart holds a flower box.
On the left, a goat stands near a fence and a bucket, in front of a fir tree. On the right, the woodcutter is at work by his chopping block, in front of his stacked logs.
A traditional scene
This scene draws on the rural world associated with Black Forest chalet cuckoo clocks, with woodworking, animals and daily life. Compact and without music, this model fits just as well in a kitchen as in an entrance hall or an office.
