Description
The Engstler 4939QM cuckoo clock animates a peaceful Black Forest scene every hour. The mill wheel turns, the fisherman raises his rod and the cuckoo counts the hours to the rhythm of 12 melodies.
The call, the echo and the music
Its quartz movement simply runs on batteries, and the pine cone-shaped weights remain decorative. On every full hour, the cuckoo comes out of its door and counts the hours, extended by an echo, before giving way to one of its 12 tunes, different from one hour to the next. A photoelectric cell automatically stops the chime in the dark. The pendulum swings on the front.
An animated chalet by the water
Made by Engstler, this cuckoo clock features a chalet in walnut-stained wood. Its carvings and paintings are done by hand. The very steep roof, covered in wooden shingles, overlooks two windows with red shutters and their flower boxes.
In the centre, the dial displays Roman numerals and wooden hands. Just above, the cuckoo appears through its small door. On the left, a blue mill wheel accompanies a carved fir tree. On the right, the fisherman holds his rod over the stream, with a trout on the end of the line. At his feet, a wicker basket collects his catch, near a pile of logs.
The trout streams of the Black Forest inspire this scene in which flowing water takes centre stage. This musical cuckoo clock will also make a fine gift for a fishing enthusiast. The same chalet hosts another animated scene, with a woodcutter at work.
