Description
The Engstler 4491QMT cuckoo clock stages a large animated Black Forest chalet: a woodcutter who raises his arm, a water wheel that turns and dancers who twirl with each melody.
The wood, the gesture and the music
Signed Engstler, a German manufacturer that has worked wood for generations, this cuckoo clock is cut and assembled in Germany.
Its quartz movement runs on batteries. On every full hour, the cuckoo comes out of its dormer to sound the strokes, extended by an echo, then one of the twelve melodies starts to play while the figures come to life. The repertoire alternates traditional tunes and great classics, from the Kuckuckwalzer to Salut d'amour, including Für Elise and Home Sweet Home.
A half-timbered house
This large chalet plays the detail card: a half-timbered façade, a turret at the top, the water wheel on the side and the couples of dancers turning beneath the cuckoo's dormer. The woodcutter, for his part, splits his wood to the rhythm of the music.
A light sensor automatically switches off the sound at night. At 43 cm, this cuckoo clock quickly becomes the centrepiece of a living room, an entrance hall or a dining room.
In a more compact format, a beer drinker raises his mug among the dancers on a 35 cm chalet.
