Description
The Hönes 1232/2 cuckoo clock appeals with its small brown wooden chalet, its painted flowers and its countryside scene around an accordion player and a fawn. A piece full of details, animated only by the cuckoo and its pendulum.
A 1-day movement
Made by Hönes in Titisee-Neustadt, this cuckoo clock runs on two pine cone-shaped weights, to be wound every day by pulling the chains. On the half hour, the cuckoo calls once. On the hour, it calls the number of hours, accompanied by a gong. There is no music or melody.
A charming flowered chalet
The brown wooden chalet is topped with a shingle roof and a small turret housing a bell. The large black dial stands out between the light half-timbering, while painted flowers decorate the top of the chalet and its base.
On the left, a carved fir tree accompanies the fawn. On the right, an accordion player sits on a bench under a small canopy. The leaf-shaped pendulum completes this traditional scene.
Carved Black Forest chalets give an important place to scenes of daily life. Here, the accordion player and the fawn stay still to leave all the attention to the call of the cuckoo.
