Description
The Hönes 8294 cuckoo clock carries the signature of one of the most renowned manufacturers in the Black Forest. Handmade and VdS certified, it needs winding only once a week.
Movement and operation
Two pine cone-shaped weights drive the Regula movement, to be wound once a week by pulling the chains. The cuckoo calls once on the half hour and the number of hours on the hour. With each call, the farm woman pulls the bell tower rope and makes the bell ring. A lever allows the call to be switched off at night without stopping the clock. The dial, hands and bird are made of wood.
A Black Forest chalet
The hand-laid shingle roof carries a small bell tower. Beneath the openwork gable, the light half-timbered façade opens onto two windows with green shutters, fitted with flower boxes. A bench is placed under the dial. On the left, a Saint Bernard waits in front of its kennel; on the right, the farm woman in traditional costume stands near a flowered fence and a fir tree.
She wears the Bollenhut, the traditional Black Forest hat. Its red pompoms indicate an unmarried woman; they turn black after marriage.
Like the Saint Bernard? You will find it on this small Hönes chalet.
