Description
The elegant Engstler 522QM cuckoo clock takes up the classic decoration of carved Black Forest cuckoo clocks in an understated wood finish. Its quartz movement lets you choose between cuckoo and music, cuckoo only, or silence.
Movement and operation
Handmade in the Black Forest by Engstler, this model is driven by a musical quartz movement. Its pendulum swings and its two pine cone-shaped weights remain decorative. Every hour, the wooden cuckoo comes out of its door and calls the number of hours, with an echo effect, then a melody rings out.
The 12 traditional melodies alternate through the hours. A selector lets you choose the chime mode and adjust the volume. The chime stops automatically at night.
Five carved leaves around the dial
The decoration is carved by hand and the walnut-stained wood is set off by the carving alone. Five leaves in relief surround the dial, accompanied by a bird with outspread wings. The round dial has cream Roman numerals and openwork wooden hands. The cuckoo, also in carved wood, is articulated.
This five-leaf decoration descends from the Bahnhäusle, which appeared around 1850 in the Black Forest. Do you prefer colour? The same decoration exists in a version with painted roses.
