Description
The Engstler 522/9QM cuckoo clock takes up one of the most emblematic shapes of Black Forest cuckoo clocks. Hand-painted and driven by a quartz movement, it calls every hour and plays 12 melodies without needing to be wound.
Twelve melodies through the hours
Made by Engstler, in Villingen-Schwenningen in the Black Forest, this model is driven by a quartz movement. Its pendulum swings from right to left and its two decorative weights stay in place.
Every hour, the door opens, the cuckoo comes out and calls the number of hours, with the echo of the forest, then one of its twelve melodies takes over. A photoelectric cell automatically switches off the chime in the dark.
A decoration of leaves and roses
The five large maple leaves are carved in relief around the dial. They are adorned with pink roses and green foliage hand-painted. At the top, a bird with outspread wings perches on a branch. The brown dial, the openwork wooden hands and the leaf-shaped pendulum complete this traditional decoration.
This five-leaf shape, called Fünflaub, belongs to the classic repertoire of Black Forest cuckoo clocks. Its small format easily finds its place in an entrance hall, a kitchen or an office.
This five-leaf decoration also comes in a mechanical version, in brighter colours: our Hönes colourful mechanical model is worth a look.
