Description
The Hönes 6744T cuckoo clock stages a duel of goats at the foot of the chalet: every hour, the two animals butt heads, the dancers turn and the mill wheel gets going.
Three weights, a music box
Made by Hönes in Titisee-Neustadt, this cuckoo clock runs on a mechanical 1-day movement. The three pine cone-shaped weights are wound every day by pulling the chains: one drives the going train, another the call of the cuckoo, the third the music box.
The cuckoo calls once on the half hour, then counts the hours on the hour. In both cases, the music takes over with “Edelweiss” or “Fröhlicher Wanderer”, and the scene comes to life. A lever is enough to switch off the sounds for the night.
An alpine chalet full of life
The chalet follows the codes of the mountains: shingle roof, shutters decorated with hearts and fine carvings across the whole façade. Beneath the cuckoo door, the dancers stand on their gallery.
On the left, the mill wheel turns near the carved fir trees; below, the two goats measure themselves against each other. At 34 cm, this cuckoo clock nicely fills a living-room or dining-room wall.
The same spirit of animated scene, with a hiker who waves in passing, on a chalet with a water wheel.
