Description
The Hönes 699T cuckoo clock stages the world of the Black Forest with its walker, its water wheel and its moving dancers. Its musical mechanical movement animates the scene every hour, in a 30 cm format.
Three weights, a music box
Made by Hönes in Titisee-Neustadt, this cuckoo clock runs on a mechanical 1-day movement. Its three pine cone-shaped weights are wound daily by pulling on the chains. One drives the going train, another the call of the cuckoo and the third drives the music box.
On the half hour, the cuckoo calls once. On the hour, it counts the hours. In both cases, the music takes over: the dancers turn, the water wheel starts to move and the hiker comes to life. To understand how the music box drives the figurines, see our guide to musical cuckoo clocks.
An animated Black Forest chalet
The walnut-stained chalet is carved and made by hand. Beneath the cuckoo door, two couples in traditional costume stand on a balcony edged with openwork wood. The windows with green shutters and the flower boxes strengthen the mood of the scene.
On the left, the water wheel turns under a small lean-to, near a carved fir tree. On the right, the hiker walks along with his long pole in front of a pile of logs.
The hiker even has his own song: “Fröhlicher Wanderer”, one of the two tunes of the music box, accompanies his steps every hour.
