Description
The Engstler 496QMT cuckoo clock turns every hour into a little show: the woodcutter raises his arm, the water wheel begins to turn and the couples of dancers turn beneath the roof. All in a 34 cm chalet with a shingle-covered roof.
Three animations and twelve melodies
This clock comes from Villingen-Schwenningen, where Engstler has been assembling its cuckoo clocks for generations. The quartz movement runs on batteries and keeps time month after month.
On the full hour, the bird appears and launches its call, extended by an echo, then the music starts: the woodcutter raises his arm, the wheel begins to turn and the couples of dancers turn beneath the roof. Twelve tunes follow one another through the hours, from the “Kuckuckwalzer” to “Salut d'amour”.
In the evening, the light sensor interrupts everything until morning. Our guide to the quartz movement explains how these battery-powered cuckoo clocks work.
An animated mountain chalet
The shingle roof tops a wooden façade that follows the codes of mountain houses, with shutters, balcony and painted details. The scene itself plays out on the terrace, around the woodcutter and his wheel.
At 34 cm, it fits just as well in a living room as in an entrance hall, and makes a lovely gift idea, for children and grown-ups alike.
