Description
The Engstler 640/2QM cuckoo clock stands out for its large carved decoration and its nest of chicks beneath the dial. The hand-painted birds add touches of colour to the walnut-stained wood, while the quartz movement animates the cuckoo every hour.
A musical quartz operation
Made by Engstler in the Black Forest, this cuckoo clock runs on batteries. Its quartz movement has a swinging pendulum and two decorative weights that stay in place. Every hour, the cuckoo comes out of its door and calls the number of hours, accompanied by the echo of the forest.
A melody then takes over, from the “Kuckuckwalzer” to the “Salut d'amour”, among twelve tunes. A light sensor automatically stops the chime in the dark.
Painted birds around the dial
Hand-carved in a walnut finish, this model brings colour to its birds, hand-painted in green, blue and orange tones. A large bird sits at the top, two others frame the dial and two chicks stand in their basket-shaped nest.
The foliage carved in deep relief frames the whole, while the background has a diamond pattern. The round dial shows cream Roman numerals and openwork golden hands. At 43 cm high, this model offers a generous format while keeping the spirit of the traditional carved cuckoo clock.
Fans of nesting scenes will find three birds and their nest on a large mechanical decoration with seven leaves.
