Description
The Engstler 632QMT cuckoo clock brings together seven leaves, three birds and four animated figures in a walnut finish. Every hour, the cuckoo calls, a melody rings out and the four dancers turn on the balcony.
A musical quartz operation
Made by Engstler in the Black Forest, this cuckoo clock runs on batteries with its quartz movement. Its pendulum swings on the front, beneath two decorative weights that stay in place.
Every hour, the two doors open, the cuckoo calls the number of hours with the echo of the forest, then one of 12 melodies rings out. The four dancers then turn on themselves. A photoelectric cell automatically stops the chime when it is dark. The volume is adjustable.
Three birds and seven carved leaves
Hand-carved and stained walnut, the decoration spreads seven leaves around the dial. A large bird with outspread wings stands at the top, while two others are perched on branches on each side of the dial.
Beneath the cuckoo door, four dancers in traditional costume stand on a revolving platform, in front of an openwork wooden railing. The dark dial has cream Roman numerals and openwork golden hands.
The Ländler, an alpine dance in three-four time, accompanies several melodies in the repertoire. For a softer mood, the same carving can be found on a light wood model.
