Description
The Hönes 8248/4nu cuckoo clock unfolds an entire hunting tableau over 45 cm, hand-carved in the traditional Black Forest style. Its mechanical 8-day movement needs winding only once a week.
Eight days between two windings
Made by Hönes in Titisee-Neustadt, this cuckoo clock runs on a Regula-type mechanical 8-day movement. The two cast-iron pine cone-shaped weights are wound once a week by pulling on the chains.
The wooden cuckoo calls once on the half hour, then counts the hours on the hour, while the pendulum sets the pace beneath the dial. Its rack strike mechanism allows simple setting: the hands can be turned in both directions. A lever allows the call to be switched off for the night.
A hunting tableau in deep relief
At the top, a stag stands on its base, head held high. All around, the oak foliage and its acorns frame the scene, while a hunting horn goes around the dial. A hare sits to its left, a bird of prey to its right, and the game bag closes the tableau below the dial.
The walnut tint unifies the whole, and the painted cuckoo remains the only touch of colour.
Its 45 cm call for a clear wall, in a living room or a reception room. The same decoration exists in mechanical 1-day, for those who prefer the gesture of daily winding.
