Description
The Hönes 834/4 cuckoo clock asserts its 50 cm carved decoration with an antlered stag's head, crossed rifles and game. Its mechanical 8-day movement requires only one winding per week.
A mechanical 8-day movement
Made by Hönes in Titisee-Neustadt, this cuckoo clock runs on a weight-driven mechanical 8-day movement. The two pine cone-shaped weights are wound once a week by pulling on the chains. On the half hour, the cuckoo calls once. On the hour, it counts the hours. The pendulum swings and the ticking of the mechanism remains audible.
A carved decoration on the hunting theme
Hand-carved in a uniform walnut tint, this cuckoo clock unfolds a hunting decoration in deep relief. At the top, a stag's head with full antlers rests on a carved escutcheon, above two crossed rifles. The oak foliage and its acorns frame the whole.
A hunting horn goes around the dial. A hare sits to its left, while a game bird appears to its right. Below the dial, a game bag completes this hunting tableau. The painted cuckoo is the only coloured element of the piece.
The hunting decoration is one of the great repertoires of the carved cuckoo clock, along with foliage and birds. The 50 cm format allows it to find its place on a large section of wall, in an entrance hall, a living room or a dining room.
The same repertoire exists in a more discreet form: our Hönes carved hunting scene takes up the 8-day movement on 45 cm.
