Description
The Hönes 1248/4 cuckoo clock asserts its hunting decoration with a stag, a bird of prey and a hare carved in wood. Its mechanical 1-day movement brings out the cuckoo on every half hour and every hour.
Movement and operation
This Hönes cuckoo clock has a weight-driven mechanical 1-day movement. Two pine cone-shaped weights drive the movement. It is wound each day by pulling the two chains to bring the weights back to the top.
On every half hour, the cuckoo calls once. On the hour, it calls the corresponding number of hours. Its door opens during the call. At night, a simple lever is enough to silence the cuckoo, while the clock keeps telling the time.
A carved decoration on the hunting theme
The decoration with a walnut-effect finish is entirely devoted to hunting. A stag standing on a base dominates the composition, while carved oak leaves cover the outline.
A hunting horn surrounds the dial. A hare sits on the left and a bird of prey on the right. A game bag completes the scene below the dial.
