Description
The Engstler 532/10QMT cuckoo clock combines painted flowers, traditional carving and animated dancers. Every hour, the cuckoo calls, a melody rings out and the three figures turn to the rhythm of the music.
Movement and operation
Made in the Black Forest by Engstler, this cuckoo clock is driven by a quartz movement. Its pendulum swings on the front, beneath two decorative pine cone-shaped weights. No winding is necessary.
Every hour, the cuckoo comes out of its door and calls the number of hours, accompanied by the echo of the forest. One of 12 melodies is then heard, while the three dancers come to life. A photoelectric sensor automatically stops the chime in the dark.
Painted edelweiss and gentians
The wooden decoration is carved and hand-painted. Five large leaves surround the dial. The leaves at the top and bottom hold white edelweiss, while those on the sides are adorned with blue gentians. Above, a bird with outspread wings completes the whole. Beneath the cuckoo door, two figures in traditional costume stand in an openwork wooden gallery.
The edelweiss and the gentian are among the emblematic flowers of the mountains of Central Europe. The same carving also exists in 22 cm, without dancers, with painted roses.
