Description
The Hönes 101/4nu cuckoo clock first draws the eye with its carved walnut-finish decoration, where seven leaves surround three birds. Behind this composition, a mechanical 1-day movement brings out the cuckoo and marks the hours with its call.
Movement and operation
Made by Hönes in Titisee-Neustadt, this cuckoo clock has a mechanical 1-day Regula movement. Two pine cone-shaped weights drive the mechanism. It is wound each day by pulling the chains.
The cuckoo calls once on every half hour, then strikes the number of hours on the hour. A lever allows the call to be switched off manually during the night. The cuckoo clock is made of hand-painted wood.
Seven leaves and three carved birds
The walnut-effect finish sets off the seven leaves carved in relief, arranged around the case. Three birds complete the decoration: a large bird with outspread wings at the peak, then a bird on each side of the dial. The black dial with cream Roman numerals stands out against the lattice-carved wood.
