Never pull on the weights themselves: you risk disturbing the mechanism. For a 1-day model, wind it every evening; for an 8-day model, once a week is sufficient. ## Setting the time Always move the hands forward clockwise, pausing at each chime to let the cuckoo sing. To set the time backward, it is better to advance a full turn rather than forcing it backward. ## Maintenance over time Dust the case with a soft, dry brush, without any product. Every two to three years, a watchmaker can oil the movement to preserve its regularity. Avoid excessive humidity and sudden temperature changes, which can damage the carved wood. With these few attentions, your cuckoo will keep its clear song and precision for decades.
