Understanding its operation helps to better choose and maintain your piece. ## The 1-day movement This is the traditional movement par excellence. Its autonomy is about 30 hours: it is therefore wound every day. Compact and reliable, it equips the majority of animated cuckoos and remains the most accessible option among mechanical movements. ## The 8-day movement More elaborate, the 8-day movement offers an autonomy of about one week thanks to heavier weights and an adapted barrel. It suits those who wish to reduce winding frequency while keeping a fully mechanical operation. ## Chiming, music and animations The cuckoo's call is produced by two small bellows that imitate the bird's cry. Musical models add a cylinder movement that plays a melody after the chime, often accompanied by animated figurines: dancers who turn, water wheel, woodcutter sawing. The more numerous the animations, the more complex and valuable the movement is.
